As my contribution to the A-Z blogging challenge this year, I shall be offering each day a limerick or rhyme having as its subject the day’s keyword, the keywords being based on a selection of strange, unusual or interesting animals drawn from Strange Animals blog or a-z animals website.
Victoria Crowned Pigeon
Worldwide, pigeon species abound,
But none like Victoria Crowned.
It’s big and it’s blue
And quite staggering, too,
None larger has ever been found.
It lives in the north of New Guinea
In lowland or swamp, not a spinney
It generally feeds
On snails, fruits and seeds.
You’ll never find one that is skinny!
Among pigeons, this big’un is boss
Its crown puts its status across
There’s less hunting, and yet
It is still under threat
From logging and habitat loss
