    • Thanks, Noelle. I keep trying for the moon shot that will satisfy me (but I would probably need to spend a shedload of money for the range and resolution I want).
      As for the word use in books, what choice is there? Crescent – okay in some places, ditto full and eclipsed. First quarter and last quarter? No romance, no music. But gibbous – it’s a wondrous word; it’s a word I’d like to use more. The OED has a sub-definition of ‘convex or protuberant’, and cites as an erxample usage ‘his gibbous eyes’. Makes me think of Marty Feldman. That’s fun.
