    • I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Forever Autumn is one of my favourite songs of all time, and it seemed right to have it at the wedding. It is, however, not a happy-ever-after song, and as soon as it was played, I knew it couldn’t end well, and my original story plan went the way of the migrating birds.

    • What a very kind thing to say, Stepheny. I’m sure there will be better responses, though – Esther’s challenges do attract some very skilled and talented writers. Maybe one day I shall be among them.

  2. I read it as true too. I probably jumped right into it as I am the red-headed daughter of a 20 year marine who fortunately has mellowed over time, plus the renewed memories of first love, that for me, turned out phenomenally fantastic in the long run…. I was going to say, I’m glad you had those happy moments with autumn. Well, I’m glad your character did, and I hope that after a suitably long period of mourning, he married April and had a nice family and a happy life.

    • I’m glad you enjoyed it, JoAnne. I’ve added a link to the song Forever Autumn on YouTube. It’s one of my favourite tracks of all time, and although I didn’t have it in mind when I started the piece, I’m sure I was influenced by its haunting lyrics.

  3. Having read that you write lies, is this a true story or fiction? I read it as a true story and found it heartbreaking but then I read what you wrote about writing lies so I thought I’d better clarify that xx Rowena
