He came, he saw, he fixed, he got paid!
True to his word, Casper arrived and completed the work to bring the new bathroom online with the central ventilation system. We can now honestly describe the house as three bedrooms and three bathrooms (even though none of them has a bath – all showers). Rik is due to start the blockwork for the decking area tomorrow and has already delivered the timber. It looks like Christian and/or Casper will be helping him with a view to completing the job within the next fortnight.
Not such good news on the mower front, though. The engine made an expensive noise and now refuses even to start! We also have a problem with Mr Rotavator – won’t restart after the winter – at some stage it tipped and filled the cylinder with oil; that is out, but still no joy. Add to that the clutch problem I have with the MX5, and you can see we are becoming mechanically challenged.
Once again, Rik to the rescue. He has a friend (whom we met when we went to look at the house in Terjat last January) who is an ace mechanic, works in a garage in Marcillat-en-Combrailles and specialises in small engined stuff. Given that we have no means to get the kit to Marcillat, he will be coming here tomorrow evening to have a look at things. I dread to think how much all that will cost; I still have bad memories of the 1930 € it cost to fix the Astra last year. However, it will be cheaper (I hope) than hiring a suitable vehicle to get the stuff to the main dealers in Montluçon and paying main dealer prices.
Our trees are looking good. We can now see leaves from the balcony in front of the workshop, and I expect to see blossom on some of them quite soon.
We have decided that, to facilitate the move to B&B (if we do it) we shall clear out the rooms below the current workshop, using the left hand one as a tool store and the larger one on the right as a workshop. Casper has agreed to wire it out for us. The existing workshop will then be a lounge/diner/games room for visitors, so they can choose to be more independent of us on days they may decide not to go out.
